Blog 4: A Meal or Food You Really Like

✨Hi!✨

Today I’m going to talk about my favourite food!

Lately I've been liking one food in particular... it's called patacon.

The main ingredient is plantain/green banana, also a little bit of oil and salt... and that's it.

I tried it thanks to the recommendation of my brother (that's what we call each other) who is from Colombia. I still thank him for telling me that it exists :')

Sometimes I buy it, because fortunately near my house there is a Colombian food restaurant <3

But anyway my bro usually teaches me how to prepare food from his country and I teach him too... it's fun :) So he showed me how to prepare Patacones, this one is really easy ahaha. You just chop it and fry until they look yellow... then, a little bit cooler, crush them and add salt to taste... Ta-dah!

I like them a lot because they are salty and crunchy, the perrfect meal for me!!!

Even if it is a fried food, I don't think it is very harmful to my health. I usually eat very little of this because a simple piece of it makes a delicious and filling meal 馃槉 and I don't eat it many times a month.... So I think it's not bad.

Blog 8: A subject you enjoyed studying this semester

✨Hi, I hope all is well with you✨

Management of protected wild areas!!! ☁☁

I really like everything about the environment, this subject is one of my favorites. I also really like everything about environmental management.

I took a similar course before, called Integrated coastal zone management (Gestion Integrada de Zonas Costeras, GIZC) and it was a wonderful experience as well.

First, we learned all the basics about definitions and concepts, for example: we were able to understand what protected areas are and why it should be protected, the importance of biodiversity, to conserve, to protect, to prevent and to restore if possible.

Then we learned about the history of Protected Areas in Chile for almost 2 centuries, the bases on which they were founded and the different approaches (that was very hard for me). We have seen international cases, but above all national cases of importance for national and global biodiversity. During this period we had to read several texts, in English and Spanish :) I really like that, because in this way we can broaden our knowledge and learn about other perspectives.

Then the teacher explains us about many of the institutions, international treaties, articles of the current Chilean constitution, etc. that support the protection of protected areas. During this period we discussed a lot about particular cases, about examples in the application of learned concepts.

We learned that Chile may not be an important biodiversity case like the tropical regions, but it is important because of the many endemic and unique species found there. Also that in the central part of the country where there should be more protected areas around is where there are less and at the same time are the most threatened by interventions and urbanization… So there is a lot of work to do! Vicente P茅rez Rosales National Park, the oldest park founded in 1926 in Chile and one of the most visited in the country. There you can find the waterfalls on the Rio Petrohu茅 and Lago Todos los Santos.

Blog 7: A Career-Related Website OR an Expert in Your Field

Hi everyone ~

It is time to talk about the website that I really like.

It's time to talk about a website that I like. I must say that it is difficult for me to decide for only one geography website, since it has too wide studies, I usually use multiple sources of information.

The one I present today is called Observatorio geogr谩fico de Am茅rica Latina (http://observatoriogeograficoamericalatina.org.mx/index.html), in it you will find access to a variety of information about geography associations in Latam countries, glossaries made by professionals, research, publications and more. Maybe I don't use it muchh nowadays, but in the first years of study I consulted it a lot when I could and it helped me to get closer to geography. I was able to understand the way geography works.

I usually need to know specific information, that's what I like... but it must come from official and serious sources, so I usually use websites like:

-United Nations Environment Programme, UNEP (https://www.unep.org/es )
-Interamerican Association for Environmental Defense (https://aida-americas.org/es)

Anyway, I hadn't noticed this before, how I've changed muy sources of information and I think it was difficult... It got me thinkging... hahahah 馃槄

Thank you for reading my post, enjoy your week :)

Blog 6: How Can My Major/Career Make the World a Better Place

Hi everybody ☁ I hope you are all well ☁

There are many ways in which geography contributes to knowledge, societies and lifestyles, as it is a broadly educated career. We study all kinds of processes at various spatial and temporal scales in order to propose measures and solutions to problems.
In this sense, there are many specialties in various topics, some examples are migratory processes, natural disasters, environmental protection, economies of scale, cultural aspects, medical geography, etc., this last specialty has taken importance lately because of the pandemic.

Personally, I really like studying about the environment, so sometimes I do it in my free time. But it is not only about knowledge, I value the ways of working that I have learned, because I think it is appropriate to work interdisciplinary, to do the environmental protection management projects together with other professionals and valuing the local knowledge of communities that inhabit the place of study, since it is necessary to know its history, to know the ecosystem and the actors. Today the global warming is at critical levels, it is necessary to act to protect all the flora and fauna of the earth and avoid a severe economic crisis that could seriously affect the most vulnerable population.

I also think that when I have to work in management I will have to face difficulties associated with all kinds of volitions and interests, private, public, political... So I think I will have a challenging job in this sense as soon as I finish my studies. I hope that the constituent process will be a significant advance, even if it takes years.

Communities and environment.

Thank you for taking the time to read my experience and have a great week :)

Blogs 5: My favorite photo

Hi everyone~ ✨

I present to you my favorite photo of the moment, it's me wrapped in a blanket.

This photo was taken by my mom on an afternoon in the winter of 2018, while we were waiting for the water to boil for tea. I was very cold and I was walking around the apartment wrapped in the blanket hahahaha since there is no electric heating... I cope with the cold temperatures of winters this way, also with various types of tea (my favorites are lemon and orange).

Going back to the subject, what I like about this photo is that it makes me think that even though almost 3 years have passed, I still behave the same way today, especially in quarantine, because I have to sit in front of the desk for a long time without moving too much. Although the current plus ✨is that last year I bought a kigurumi, a very warm pajama, I waited for the summer months to pass so I could wear it now.

I wonder... what other ways will there be to resist the cold...?

Blog 3: My favorite piece of technology

 ✨Hi there! ✨

It's time for a new Blog! ☁☁

In this time I'll tell you about my favorite piece of technology.

There are several things I like, but I think I prefer my headphones. I have in-ear earphone, which I consider very versatile when I have to go out,  for short trips, for running, shopping, etcetera... They are comfortable, easy to wear and you can carry it with you everywhere, you can also put it all in a pocket. Above all, I like the fact that I can wear an earphone only on one side, which is usually the left side for me, an leave my other ear uncovered, free.

I prefer in-ear rather than earbuds, which enter the ear canal, whereas in-ears rest on the outer ear which allows more sound from the external environment to enter as well... I could say it's safer than the other one, so I recommend it more.

Even so, my favorites are the Over-ear, whose sound is very different for me, it's like beingin another world because they provide sound isolation. They help me a lot when I have to study, when I want to read, watch series, during long trips or just enjoy my favorite songs. Nowadays, I have wireless In-ear and Over-ear headphones, which I find much more comfortable than the previous one... although I still keep the traditional wired at home or take them with me when  I go out. After all, maybe the wireless can run out of batttery power.

❅ With a good song, it becomes joy to the ear and relief to the soul

Blog 2: Why did I choose this career?

 Hi everyone!  馃槉

There are some things about how I chose my career~

When I was a child I dreamed about a lot of things. For example, from my fantasy to being a cosmographer or navigator of a pirate ship... I could say that still is in my mind, like cartography. I thought about astronomy and geology too. I also had others ideas (to be a mechanic like my father).

At the school I considered phonoaudiology, after visiting a therapy center... but it didn't last long. I considered psychology as well and now that I look back on it,  I don't remember why I quit hahaha

After finishing the school, I seriously thought that I would to study physics, for example...particle physics, and I still love it. But I reminded my inner child haha telling me about the earth sciences. So I sneaked into a class at a university of geography, about GIS (Geographical Information System), because they posted on their website that it was an open class, so I went! When it was over I realized it wasn't what I thought, but I was still welcomed and I loved it, the class caught me. And after some serious consideration, I decided to study Geography C:

Currently I love my career because it addresses broad aspects of society and the earth. I also enjoy the field work. I would like to work in the city where I was born, just for a while. Then I would like to be able to work, do scientific research and projects, so that I can have the opportunity to get to know new places and communities, achieve better integrated management in the protection of areas, resources, natural and cultural heritage. I'm excited just thinking about it!
